Youtuber Becomes a Dolphin Using Oculus Rift (NSFW)

Oculus Rift Dolphin feature

Imagine being able to magically transform yourself into a dolphin and then, ignoring reality completely, go to dolphin school. Video games have always been the greatest medium of achieving this type of “reality,” but with the Oculus Rift you’re now able to submerge yourself into these magical new worlds. And what cooler world would you submerge yourself into than one of a foreign exchange student, in a classroom of dolphins, trying to cheat your way to victory?

Classroom Aquatic Oculus Rift

Famous comedic Youtuber Markiplier, whose real name is Mark Fischbach, was able to achieve this while playing Classroom Aquatic. Classroom Aquatic is a recently crowdfunding success on Kickstarter, developed by independent game development group Sunken Places. Compatible with the virtual reality goggles Oculus Rift, you become a dolphin who’s a foreign exchange student. The goal is to cheat your way to victory, using the answers given by your fellow cetacean students without the teacher catching you in the act.

The hilarity of Markiplier’s merging with the game shows exactly the power Oculus Rift has on the future of gaming—or really, the future of reality! As people become more and more integrated with the games they play, their observations of what is “real” and what is “not” will change alongside them. Classroom Aquatic is a simple game with little nonhuman or beyond-human mechanics, but it certainly opens up the mind to what possibilities lie ahead via VR gaming.

You can download a demo of Classroom Aquatic on its webpage here.

FUTURE IMPLICATIONS

Soon there’ll be a video game where you actually play as a dolphin in the vast ocean, or any other fish you so desire. Instead of taking pop quizzes, you’ll be living like a real fish, exploring the deep depths of open water, letting go of everything human and instead transforming into something quite different. Why spend your weekends like you always have when you can be an animal of your choosing instead?

“I was a dolphin, taking a pop quiz, in a classroom, underwater. And I accepted it, fully! I was totally into it! That’s a really unique aspect of the Oculus Rift I didn’t think anyone was actually going to do.” – Markiplier
