Yesterday the European Space Agency (ESA), and equally all of mankind, made history when the Rosetta spacecraft’s robotic lander Philae successfully landed on a comet named 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko. This marked the first time in history for our species to ever successfully land on a comet. In inspiration to Rosetta’s 10-year-long journey and eventual success, the ESA helped produce a sci-fi short film, AMBITION, which integrated Rosetta’s mission with that of a futuristic scenario.
In the distant future, an apprentice struggles to sculpt the geology of an alien planet. Upon failing, she demands that her enigmatic master give her another chance to prove her skills. Amused, he counters by reflecting on the very dawn of their home world, the origins of life there, and the enduring qualities of stubbornness, adaptability, and ambition that took them into the realm of the gods. Is she ready to take on the ultimate test?
AMBITION was directed by Tomasz Bagiński, and stars Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones) and Aisling Franciosi (The Fall). For more info about the Rosetta, check out the ESA’s webpage.
