What if you could upload your mind into a new brain, connected to a brand new body? Would you do it? In a new upcoming sci-fi film, Self/less, starring Ben Kingsley and Ryan Reynolds, one man sets himself to defeat his own inevitable death due to cancer by partaking in a mind uploading procedure. The only problem is that, with his new mind comes new memories, of which places him in a dangerous situation that is spinning out of control.
An extremely wealthy aristocrat dying from cancer, undergoes a radical medical procedure that transfers his consciousness into the body of a healthy young man. But all is not as it seems when he starts to uncover the mystery of the body’s origin and the “organization” that will kill to protect its cause.

I, for one, wished a sci-fi film going into both indefinite life extension and mind uploading would carry on a more optimistic viewpoint, but in terms of dystopian sci-fi thrillers, Self/less looks very interesting and will definitely be entertaining to watch. It’s clear that topics like indefinite life extension and mind uploading are growing in acceptance, due to a growing interest in them among mainstream film producers.
